This was the second round of girls camp that we have been able to be a part of since being put in as Bishop. This year we were able to go to one of our favorite places in the world… Teton Valley. We decided this year that we were going to make all of the girls toughen up and join us for a hike up to Wind Caves (perhaps my favorite hike). It is absolutely beautiful.
The funny thing about girl’s camp is that the biggest dorks are always the leaders…
I loved doing my favorite hike with my smoking hot wife. I also have to give her some very well deserved credit. She made the round trip of roughly 7 miles with a very bad back. She could hardly stand up straight to start off the day, but she kept praying and walking until her back loosened up. She was a freaking animal (at least until we got back to the car and her back completely seized up again).
Most of the girls at camp this year had never experienced a hike this long.
For dang sure, they had never experienced a hike this beautiful either.
Here was our very brave crew.
They could hardly contain their excitement!!!
Nothing beats a snowball fight in the middle of the summer. Just ask Livvy.
The girls decided that it would be great fun to have a snowball fight. Obviously, that meant they needed to gang up on the Bishop and clobber him with muddy clumps of ice. Sounds fun, huh?
One of the coolest spots on the hike is this little waterfall just before the meadow. The girls loved it. It was a great spot to wash up and get refreshed.
And to take a few pictures with my smoking hot wife again.
Eventually, we made it to the top (almost). We got stopped just short of the cave. Something about the 10 feet of snow piled up at the top of a cliff with a 100 foot drop off and water gushing from the opening of the cave made us think twice about going any further. Still, it was totally worth it.
Finally, no stop in Teton Valley is complete without a trip to the store to get an authentic huckleberry milkshake. Would you believe that most of these poor, mistreated girls had never tasted a huckleberry in all of its glory? Shame on their parents.
I (Mandee) have to add my two cents. I was so incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to be part of this girls camp. I have always loved the young women’s program and have a special place in my heart for girls camp. It was so wonderful to spend time with the amazing young women in our ward and their wonderful leaders. We truly have an incredible group of women (young and old) and I was blessed by being able to share in the spirit they brought to camp. Thanks girls!
