It is truly amazing to see how much Maggie has changed in the last two months. During those first couple of days with her she would not put any weight on her legs and she would barely crawl, she did not talk (I’m guessing she did before but maybe stopped as part of her coping) and the only noises we heard were cries or laughs, she screamed during her baths, she had to be held every waking moment (she wouldn’t even sit in a high chair to eat, she sat on my lap) and she wouldn’t even try to feed herself. The only thing she did do was hold her own bottle and if I touched it she would scream.
Now our little Maggie is walking and climbing and even on the verge of running. She understands everything we say to her and is constantly jabbering. She can say Dada, Papa, Ale (Alex), Ssss (Sammy), thank you, hi, ouch, diaper, baba (bottle), we are still working on Mama, and she can sign the words eat, drink, more, blanket, night-night, bath, and all done. She can point to her hair, head, eyes, nose, arms, hands, tummy, bum, legs, feet, and toes. She loves to take a bath and sometimes she has two a day. Now rather than wanting everything done for her she wants to do it all by herself. She doesn’t want to be carried because she wants to walk everywhere and she won’t eat unless she can feed herself (which explains the two or more baths a day).
One of her favorite things to do is carry her clothes around the house and try to put them on. She will spend hours carrying a pair of pants around. Periodically she will sit down and try putting her feet in them and then will proceed to walk around with only one leg in. Then she will take them off and tote them around awhile before she sits down and tries to put them on again. If I try to help she gets mad and just takes them off to do it again by herself. Does she sound like a two year old or what! She definitely has the attitude down!
Those first few weeks with her she seemed more like an eight month old rather than a twenty-one month old. She is growing up right before our eyes and it truly amazes me to see how much progress she makes every single day. These little kids are truly incredible and I feel so blessed to have this amazing little spirit in our home.
These were taken towards the end of March but Maggie took her first steps on March 4th.
Her first attempt at climbing.
