Hard Worker

It is hard to believe that my little boy is growing up so much.  He had the jobs this summer of mowing our lawn and doing the trimming at Papa’s house and also taking care of Papa’s cows. He has been such a huge help to Merritt this summer and always did what he was asked without complaint. If Merritt said he needed him, Alex came immediately even if he didn’t really want to. He had time cards to fill out and got a paycheck every few weeks. Each morning he would get up and go get water for the cows before Merritt and I were even awake. He is such a responsible boy and we are so proud of his hard work and great attitude!P1030829 P1020238I think he also learned a valuable lesson this summer. When he got his first paycheck he couldn’t wait to spend it. After paying his tithing and putting some in the bank I took him to Target. He didn’t have quite enough to buy a big Lego set like he wanted so instead of saving until he did he bought a bunch of little things. Later he made the comment that he wished he had saved and waited to get what he really wanted. We were in Walmart last week and he found an electric scooter on clearance. When he realized he would have enough money after his next paycheck (added to what he has saved) he was so excited. So last week we cashed his last check and went back and he bought this:P1030802He has been so proud of that scooter and has been taking such good care of it. Every time he gets on it he is grinning from ear to ear. I think he learned several valuable lessons this year.

Mandee, I am so deeply impressed with your young man! What a wonderful big brother he will always be to your other children, too. This reminds me of the 2,000 stripling warriors who turned out well because their mothers had taught them and they believed them. Well done, Mama.

I love that picture of him on his scooter-he looks like he is having the time of his life!
